CHARITY – Project for 2015

In 2015 we raised funds to establish and maintain a local support group for Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in this country and most of us will know someone who has suffered from it.  As the NHS budget comes under increasing pressure the periphery services are those which have to bear the brunt of cuts. So it is important that the none-clinical areas such as emotional support groups fill the gap.

Each year the church supports a charity through its Charity Committee who organise fund raising events throughout the year. This year it has been decided, with the prevalence of prostate cancer in mind, that we will raise money, provide a venue, and facilitate the setting up of a prostate cancer support group. At the moment the nearest support group is in either Bolton or Oldham.

There was an official launch of the group at the church on the 17^th March and there will be meetings on the Second Tuesday of each month at 7.00pm (until about 9.00pm). There is an open invitation to sufferers and their families to come along and meet with each other, clinicians, representatives of Prostate Cancer UK and members from the church who will help facilitate the  group. 

We are now at the end of the first year and the group are independent of the church and run by the members.
