Bury Unitarian Church – A loving, welcoming, questioning community, welcoming all to worship with us

Sermon by Rev. Kate McKenna 19-6-16

A few words from the congregation…

What does Bury Unitarian Church mean to me? It’s a place where I feel welcomed, although I remain, through choice, on the periphery. It’s a place where I always feel a sense of peace as well as a sense of belonging. It is a place of friendship, thoughtfulness and laughter. It’s a place where I feel people still care.

Lynda Arthur

From birth I was a regular at a chapel in Bury, then age 17 years a London College for 2 years. A new beginning! Discussions with fellow students from North, South, East, and West. Back in Bury, I went to Unitarian Young People’s League meetings with old school friends. More discussions. Here I realised I was a Unitarian. 66years later, I’m still a Unitarian. Our hymns with meaningful words for the present day. The chalice light in our worship area with our congregation of warm, caring, loving folk. This sets me up for the coming week. This is where I belong.

Betty Kenyon

A wonderful community of friendly people each following their chosen path but open to question and discussion. No judgement, discrimination, or creed. We are here to support each other, to cherish our time together, happy or sad, and to maybe learn from each other.

Marian Price

A place of inspiration. A place to feel welcome, a place to feel comfortable and a place to feel safe.

Faye

Bury Unitarian Church for me offers a place of sanctuary and spirituality in a sometimes crazy world, without being tied into prescriptive and conventional religion. We are an Open, Happy and Welcoming Church. Wherever you find yourself in life you will be welcome No Matter What!.

Paul Butcher-Fielding (He Him)

For me, Unitarianism is about joining with a community, united in celebrating the ‘extraordinary’ of the ordinary’, in song, prayer, stories and reflection, in a spirit of kindness, inclusivity and thankfulness, using the light of Love as my compass. Celebrating what I can know and not claiming certainty for the things I cannot know, always hoping that Love remains in me and I remain in Love.
