Social Activities

Bury Unitarian Church – A loving, welcoming, questioning community, welcoming all to worship with us

Book Club

Our book club meets once a month (in the lighter months we meet in the evening, and in the winter we meet in the daytime).  Our books are all provided by Bury Library Service, from a long list we give them:  there is no cost and you are not expected to buy books!

We have a chat about the books (and it’s fine if you haven’t read it!), then we share drinks, nibbles, and conversation.

Everyone is welcome to join us:  we’re a very relaxed and friendly group.

Camera Club

We have a camera club meets on the second Monday of the month in person, and on the fourth Monday of the month on Zoom.  We discuss and review current photography projects.

We meet at 7.00pm and usually finish before 9.00pm. At the meeting, we have a free and open discussion about the photographs submitted by members since the last meeting. Sometimes we persue photographic projects together either in the lounge or outside depending on the weather.

There is no charge for membership; anyone with an interest in photography is most welcome, and membership of the group is not limited to church members. Everyone is welcome.

Saturday Social Gatherings

On the last Saturday of each month (although this is variable) we meet on a Saturday morning:  whilst we’re together we put together the monthly church Calendar (if folding and stapling are your passions, this is the social event for you), but the main purpose is for us to be together.

There is tea, coffee, and some or any of biscuits, cakes, toast, crumpets, or seasonal treats.

You’re welcome to come along whether you want to help with the Calendar or not:  please feel free to bring your craft projects, books, or friends.

Second Sunday Lunches

On the second Sunday of each month Kate goes to the Art Picture House for her lunch, and she welcomes you to join her.  You’re welcome to join us for lunch, coffee, or a drink (the Art Picture House is a Wetherspoons pub).  It’s a lovely relaxed gathering, and we’re normally done by 1.30.

Fifth Sunday Breakfasts

When there are five Sundays in any given month, we are experimenting with sharing a light breakfast together before the service starts.  Please feel free to join us from 10am:  we clear up at 10.45 to allow the tea and coffee makers for that day to get on with their own job!

Other Social Events

Throughout the year we enjoy various occasions:  these might include quizzes, meals, concerts, readings, and performances.  We’re always open to suggestions for new ways to socialise together.
