About Us

Bury Unitarian Church – A loving, welcoming, questioning community, welcoming all to worship with us

We believe in love. We welcome everyone, with their own faith and their own opinions, and we encourage open and enquiring minds.

We are part of a liberal religious tradition. With no creed and no dogma, we are here to support each other on our journeys of spiritual exploration. We take our inspiration from religious teachings, the arts, and science, and we use that inspiration to work on living the best lives we can.

Many of us believe in a spirit of life, and many of us call that spirit God. Others of us are religious humanists, and still others are agnostic. We all believe in the potential for good in all people, and in working for the improvement of the world for all those who inhabit it. We respect the human Jesus, as one amongst many spiritual teachers.

We take our faith and our worship seriously, but we hold ourselves lightly.

As a community we are moving towards a world of love, kindness, and hope, with justice and

Our Vision Mission and Values

We believe that:

Everyone has the right to seek truth and meaning for themselves.
The fundamental tools for doing this are your own life experience, your reflection upon it, your intuitive understanding and the promptings of your own conscience.
The best setting for this is a community that welcomes you for who you are, complete with your beliefs, doubts and questions.
We can be called religious ‘liberals’: religious because we unite to celebrate and affirm values that embrace and reflect a greater reality than self. liberal because we claim no exclusive revelation or status for ourselves; because we afford respect and toleration to those who follow different paths of faith.
We are called ‘Unitarians’: because of our traditional insistence on divine unity, the oneness of God. because we affirm the essential unity of humankind and of creation.
